People | Space | Time | Place
The brand new, peer reviewed SLL LightBytes series will be focusing on light and wellness, with presentations divided into four overarching sessions, People, Space, Time and Place.
The topic for each of the SLL LightBytes series is informed by member and industry feedback, along with comments and suggestions from attendees at the previous series.
For the 2019-20 series we will be joined by Martin Barclay, Specification Sales Manager UK for SORAA; Richard Caple FSLL, Marketing and Applications Director for Thorlux; Roger Sexton FSLL, Vice President Specifier Support for Xicato; and Graeme Shaw MSLL, Technical Applications Manager for Zumtobel.
It’s clear that further clarity is needed in relation to the topic of circadian lighting or the application of lighting for wellness. The Society recognises that for stimulation of the circadian system and support of human health, there is no substitute for daylight. With this in mind, this year expert speakers from the Society’s Sponsors in Partnership will be joined by Dr Eleonora Brembilla, Research Associate in advanced building daylight modelling at Loughborough University.
Within People there will be an introduction to physiological, psychological and emotional responses to light, including sunlight and daylight. Speakers will consider individual needs with reference to case studies.
Space will position daylight as the foremost consideration with regard to lighting a space. It will consider interaction, biophilic design, technology and controls.
Time will look at lighting requirements and potential impact depending on the time of day, considering duration of exposure, quantity and spectrum.
The final session of the day will be considering Place. Within this session, speakers will discuss climate and geography, cultural preference, the relationship between light and place-making, conservation and ecological concerns.
