Here’s the backstory, just in case you missed it.
Nigel Harvey, CEO of Recolight and passionate environmentalist was in Trafalgar Square on 7th Octrober 2019, taking part in an Extinction Rebellion action to draw attention to the inaction of the UK government to the unfolding climate crisis.
On that afternoon, Nigel was arrested and charged with Obstruction; his case was heard in the City of London Magistrates Court on 17th February 2021 and he was found GUILTY, as expected . . the outcome, a nine-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay costs.
Here’s the thing. Most of us don’t get to here the argument for the defence because its illegal to record these things. Nigel chose to defend himself so we got to the heart of the matter – why he felt it appropriate to take part in this disruptive event in the heart of London.
I attended the hearing via a video link and was able to hear from Nigel himself. so powerful – so emotional – was his defence that I asked him to record it for us so that everyone gets a chance to hear what he had to say. Here it is . . .
