LightBytes events offer a day of peer-reviewed, bite-sized presentations, focusing on key issues relating to lighting professionals and those within related industries. And jolly good value they are, too!
I was invited to go along to the Bristol Lightbytes and it was a great day. There’s not much to beat in a working day spent in the company of professionals – experts at their trade, both at the front of the room – and in the audience.
The model for Lightbytes is also one to admire; four presenters each offering a micro-talk across four topics. Do the maths – that’s 16 talks in all. – and all from the same four heroes. For the Bristol session we had:

You’d have to travel a long way to get a better format than this – take it from someone who’s chaired a lot of conferences for the past few years. The very idea of getting four different aspects on a single topic really brings matters into sharp relief and opens up the floor to in-depth conversations once you get to the Q&A.
Marvellous stuff.
But here’s the thing; while there were nealrly 50 lighters in the audience . . .there were ONLY 50 lighters in the audience. Given that this is a free event, apart from losing a day’s work and the cost to get to the venue, this deserves far better attendance from an industry that usually complains about not knowing enough about what’s going on.
